Nursing Workforce Growing in Diversity, Numbers Show
New data from the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses, the longest running survey of registered nurses in the U.S., show a more diverse profession as of 2018 compared with 2008. The percentage of Hispanic nurses has nearly tripled, for example. What's more, nurses are better educated today.
Consumer Agency Backs Efforts to Loosen Restrictions on APRNs
The Federal Trade Commission has advised lawmakers in Kansas and Ohio that it supports proposed bills that would free advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) from the need to enter contracts with physicians. The FTC’s reasoning: Removing barriers to APRN practice is “good for competition and American consumers.”

New - Students Invited to Apply for Complex Care Training
Knowing how to better care for people with complex health and social needs takes training. Now is the chance to join some 600 students from 40 schools across the U.S who have been trained through the Interprofessional Student Hotspotting Learning Collaborative. Apply for the 2020 Macy Faculty Scholars Program
Innovative midcareer nursing faculty members who are committed to a career in health professional education should consider applying for the 2020 Macy Faculty Scholars Program. Applications are due by February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
The Family Caregiving Advisory Council, part of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), wants to hear from those involved in family caregiving as prepares its report to Congress. Responses will be considered as the ACL proposes a national family caregiving strategy.
The doors are open to applications for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s four leadership programs: Clinical Scholars, Health Policy Research Scholars, Interdisciplinary Research Leaders, and Culture of Health Leaders. Deadline for the Culture of Health program: February 19. Deadline for the others: March 11.
Hosts Sought for Regional Meetings on Complex Care
After it wrote its blueprint to help those with complex needs, the National Center for Complex Health & Social Needs was asked to guide others in creating coordinated systems of care at the local level. That is why it will hold six regional meetings in 2020, and invites organizations to apply to host. Deadline: February 29.
