W.Va Public Health Nurse Receives MLK Award
Selected for &ldquo;characteristics of justice, scholarship, sharing of self, human and civil rights &hellip; and public service,&rdquo; Angela Gray, BSN, RN, of West Virginia, was awarded the Governor's Living the Dream Award, part of the state&rsquo;s commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday. Gray is nursing director of Morgan County Health Department.

Nursing Workforce Growing in Diversity, Numbers Show
New data from the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses, the longest running survey of registered nurses in the U.S., show a more diverse profession as of 2018 compared with 2008. The percentage of Hispanic nurses has nearly tripled, for example. What's more, nurses are better educated today.

Consumer Agency Backs Efforts to Loosen Restrictions on APRNs
The Federal Trade Commission has advised lawmakers in Kansas and Ohio that it supports proposed bills that would free advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) from the need to enter contracts with physicians. The FTC&rsquo;s reasoning: Removing barriers to APRN practice is &ldquo;good for competition and American consumers.&rdquo;

New - Students Invited to Apply for Complex Care Training
Knowing how to better care for people with complex health and social needs takes training. Now is the chance to join some 600 students from 40 schools across the U.S who have been trained through the Interprofessional Student Hotspotting Learning Collaborative. The six-month program takes place at four regional hubs. Deadline: May 1.

Caregiving Advisory Council Opens Online Survey
The Family Caregiving Advisory Council, part of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), wants to hear from those involved in family caregiving as prepares its report to Congress. Responses will be considered as the ACL proposes a national family caregiving strategy.

After it wrote its blueprint to help those with complex needs, the National Center for Complex Health & Social Needs was asked to guide others in creating coordinated systems of care at the local level.
