Change of plans, John. Because there is so much legislation for lawmakers to work through, Senate voting on the Virginia Values Act has been delayed until at least Thursday. Some good news? The delay means it could pass through the House and Senate on the same day. But we can't afford any more delays, John, because the deadline for bills to pass out of the House and Senate is only a week away. Call and email your Senator and Delegate and urge them to pass the Virginia Values Act (SB 868 / HB 1663) ASAP, without amendments. We have broad support, but we’re not taking it for granted. Polls show that 3 in 4 Virginians want their LGBTQ neighbors protected from discrimination, including more than half of Republicans. Plus the Virginia Values Act has passed each committee with bipartisan support, and now has the endorsement of Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn herself. There are grumblings from opponents of LGBTQ equality, fearmongering that the Virginia Values Act will hurt our economy (which isn’t what the 30+ major companies who have endorsed LGBTQ protections are saying)—or worse. But so far, only the crowded calendar has delayed our bills. We can't let anything else stall these critical protections, John. Take one minute to call and email your Senator and Delegate. Tell them to bring the Virginia Values Act up for a vote NOW and pass it without amendments.
