Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn   My friend, Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL House Republicans passed our Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, our plan to responsibly pay down our debt, limit government spending and enact pro-growth fiscal policies that will save taxpayers $4.8 trillion. I'm urging the White House and the Senate to take up this legislation and negotiate with the House in good faith to prevent a default and implement fiscal responsibility. Watch my floor speech or read my statement to learn more about why I support this bill. READ MORE READ MORE I've partnered with Rep. Grace Meng to introduce bipartisan legislation to enhance the U.S. Postal Service's ability to crack down on postal crime, including mail theft and check fraud which are on the rise in our community. Our bill would give USPS the tools and resources necessary to quickly gather information, including bank records and surveillance videos, which will allow them to build stronger cases against the organizations responsible for these crimes. I also had an opportunity to bring this issue up with IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel when he came before the House Committee on Ways and Means, along with pushing him to have IRS end its COVID telework policies and return to the workplace. He affirmed to me that the IRS is committed to working with the USPS and the Department of Justice to crack down on this nefarious behavior. WATCH WATCH I've spoken with parents, students, and educators across our district who all believe prolonged school closures caused irreparable damage to our children. I questioned AFT President Rani Weingarten about her efforts to keep our schools closed and why billions in taxpayer dollars given to schools to reopen have gone to waste. IN THE DISTRICT My office received over 500 submissions to our Presidents' Day Essay Contest, more than double the amount we received last year. While each submission was more than deserving of recognition, our winners, many of whom are first-generation Americans, went above and beyond to provide thoughtful, unique ideas as to how they would make our community a better place to live, work and play. The students wrote about ways to confront bullying, make food and shelter more affordable, keep our communities clean and safe, and visit nursing homes to spend more time with our seniors. It was a pleasure to meet these students and listen to their ideas. I hope they continue to advocate for the issues most important to them throughout their education! READ MORE Congratulations to Staten Island for breaking Greece's world record for the largest human puzzle piece with 2,423 people to raise awareness for Autism Acceptance Month. I may have Greek heritage, but I'm a proud American and Staten Islander first! My office was happy to participate in this record-breaking event. I stopped by the 62nd Precinct in Brooklyn to meet with Commanding Officer Captain Eddie Lau and speak to roll call. I'm happy to have delivered federal funding for the NYPD to purchase forensic and protective equipment, new vehicles, cameras, and expand its K9 unit. IN THE NEWS Staten Island electeds blame Great Kills stabbing on bail reform, raise the age laws Borough President Vito Fossella called a stabbing at the Great Kills station of the Staten Island Railway (SIR) on Friday and other recent incidents of violent crime the direct result of the “turnstile concept of justice.” Fossella, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) and representatives of Councilmen Joe Borelli (R-South Shore) and David Carr (R-Mid-Island), and Assemblymen Michael Reilly (R-South Shore), Sam Pirozzolo (R-Mid-Island), and Michael Tannousis (R-East Shore) held a press conference Monday at the train station calling for changes to bail reform and raise the age laws they claim are the reason for skyrocketing violent crime on Staten Island and throughout the city. READ Malliotakis, Local Electeds Joint Statement on Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign Plan “As officials who represent diverse and aging communities, we’re extremely concerned that the MTA’s proposed Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign plan would negatively impact our most vulnerable constituents who rely on the city’s bus services to commute to work, school, and important appointments," the lawmakers wrote. "Thus far, the MTA’s outreach efforts to these communities have been insufficient, leaving many residents confused and concerned about what happens next. Additionally, the MTA has received billions in federal funding and has access to funding through the bipartisan infrastructure bill, so there is absolutely no excuse for service cuts or cost savings. Before the MTA removes and spaces stops further apart, we urge the city to release all utilization and implementation data to ensure the public has ample time to review and respond to any proposed changes.” READ Washington DC Office 351 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 (202) 225-3371 Staten Island Office 1698 Victory Blvd Suite 2L Staten Island, NY 10314 (718) 568-2870 Brooklyn Office 7716 Third Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11209 (718) 306-1620   [link removed] Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) | 351 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by [email protected]
