Over the last 10 years, we've made Washington state a beacon of progress. Now, it's time to pass the torch.
Today, I'm announcing I will not be seeking re-election in 2024.
Serving as governor of Washington state has been my greatest honor and most humbling responsibility. Together, we've accomplished so much. We set the standard for climate progress. We created one of the best economies in the country -- and made sure workers felt the benefits. We protected reproductive freedom, secured the nation's best family leave benefits, passed gun safety reform, invested in education, and so much more.
Now, we have another year and a half to keep focusing on issues critical to Washingtonians, like addressing the homelessness crisis, speeding our efforts to expand behavioral health services, and continuing our fight against climate change.
No elected leader succeeds on their own. And I thank the many people who chose to work for me, campaign with me, and provide their honest insights all along the way. You challenged me to think differently, dream bigger, and get the job done.
I want to thank you, specifically, and everyone reading this email. This grassroots movement has beaten the odds time and time again. Whether you've chipped in to hit our fundraising goals, signed petitions, or read along to stay up to date on our progress, I'm so grateful for your support. Hear me when I say that our online organizing from emails like this one made all the difference for the critical progress we made in Washington state, and across the country.
Time and time again, you trusted me with your vote, your priorities, and your dreams for everything our state could be. I hope I made you proud.
