Client to Peer Advocate

Jean, a peer advocate for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton
PACT (Program of Assertive Community Treatment), serves individuals
living with persistent and complex behavioral health issues. With

representatives often called "ambassadors." Join this webinar to
learn how four Catholic Charities agencies (Arizona/Phoenix, Santa
Clara, Palm Beach and Saint Louis) utilize ambassadors to
strategically assist parishes in meeting community needs and

Ableism: What It Is, How to Recognize It and How to Combat It. May
16, 2023, 2:00 PM ET

This presentation will address factors associated with ableism:
attitudes, bias and stereotyping toward persons with disability and
their consequences on persons with disability. Ableism at the micro
(e.g., individual) level as well as at the macro (e.g.,
structural/systemic) or institutional level will be explored and
discussed along with intersectionality and privilege as concepts
related to ableism. Strategies to minimize ableism and resulting
barriers to health and quality health care will be addressed. The
consequences of ableism that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic
will be used to illustrate how ableism can affect the health,
well-being and even survival of persons with disability. Following
this presentation the attendee will be able to:

1. Describe factors associated with ableism: attitudes, bias and
stereotyping toward persons with disability,
2. Examine consequences of ableism and negative attitudes, bias
and stereotyping of persons with disability,
3. Identify and implement strategies to minimize ableism and
negative attitudes, bias and stereotyping that creates
barriers to persons with disability and their care.

This webinar offers 1.5 Continuing Education Credit. In order to
earn the CEC, participants will need to participate in the session
in its entirety and complete the evaluation/post-test questions.

moral teaching, ethical decision-making, public policy and the
Church, racism and poverty, and how to understand one's
