Throughout April, the Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion highlighted the many ways employers can support and enhance accessibility across their whole organization and how employees at every level can play a role. Colleges and Universities: WRP Registration Now Open

Colleges and universities are invited to participate in the Workforce Recruitment Program [ [link removed] ]. The WRP is a recruitment and referral program that connects college students, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities to federal internships and permanent jobs. College career services, disability services and other staff can register their school for the WRP this spring to enable their students to apply to the program this fall.

Employment and Financial Conversations in AJCs

The LEAD Center recently released a quick reference guide titled ?Aligning Employment and Financial Conversations in American Job Centers.? The guide provides information and resources to help American Job Center workforce staff and partners discuss financial and employment goal setting with jobseekers with disabilities. This guide provides the tools for successful conversations that align the money and employment goals of jobseekers.

New Resources to Secure your Financial Future: A Toolkit for People with Disabilities
The LEAD Center added two new resources to the ?Secure Your Financial Future: A Toolkit for People with Disabilities.? The first resource, ?What Are My Housing Options? [ [link removed] ],? provides strategies and tools to help an individual make decisions about housing to best meet their needs and budget. The second resource, ?Aligning My Career Path with My Earning Needs [ [link removed] ],? provides strategies for an individual to plan their career path while also considering their budget needs.

National Autism Month

Every day, autistic people bring divergent, out of the box thinking to workplaces across America?in turn helping drive innovation in businesses of all sizes and in all industries. During National Autism Month in April, we celebrate the many contributions of neurodivergent people and commit to ensuring they can succeed at work.

To help promote disability inclusive workplaces, ODEP offers a variety of resources. To start, the ODEP-funded Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) developed a Neurodiversity in the Workplace toolkit [ [link removed] ], which helps employers and employees understand the foundation and benefits of workforce neurodiversity. It also describes autism and other neurodiversity hiring initiatives implemented by a range of companies, including small businesses. For companies interested in developing new or assessing current autism inclusion efforts, EARN also offers a self-evaluation tool, Neurodiversity Inclusion: Checklist for Organizational Success (attached below).

Both the toolkit and checklist emphasize that providing reasonable accommodations, if requested, is central to ensuring workplace inclusion for autistic people, or people with any disability. On this front, ODEP?s Job Accommodation Network (JAN) offers guidance in common accommodations for autistic people [ [link removed] ] as well as a range of related resources, such as a training video on interviewing autistic job candidates. [ [link removed] ]
