The prospect of coming out to parents can be a source of stress and anxiety for LGBTQ teenagers and young adults. “I was worried about my parents not accepting me for who I am," one recalls. "I was worried they would stop loving me.” Parents, too, may worry about how their response will be received, and what their child needs from them at this crucial moment.
This week on childmind.org ([link removed]) we explore how parents can support the emotional well-being of an LGBTQ child in the process of coming out, and how to help their child, and other vulnerable young people like them, be safe.
