Thank you for reading my newsletter. Here's a summary of last week:
Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good morning! Let me update you on a few of the most important happenings from last week.
The most significant accomplishment of the week was the passage of the Limit, Save, Grow Act. House Republicans passed this proposal, which would reduce the federal deficit by $4.8 trillion over the next decade, to force President Biden to cut his reckless spending and negotiate a responsible federal budget. Speaker McCarthy has been clear from the start that we must work together to protect America's financial future. I hope the president will quit playing games and come to the table.
The Financial Services and Judiciary Committees were both very busy considering important issues. We discussed expanding access to capital, reining in the abuse of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and reforming FEMA's flood insurance program. In the Judiciary Committee, we brought ATF Director Steven Dettelbach in to conduct oversight on recent rules proposed by the agency impact gun owners, and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Director Kathi Vidal to ensure the agency does not overstep its rulemaking authority.
In between voting and committee activity, I had the pleasure to meet with many groups from Wisconsin, discuss the top issues facing the country with constituents during my telephone town hall, and welcome the President of South Korea to Congress. As always, it's a pleasure to represent and fight on your behalf.
- Scott

Introduction of the Pretrial Release Reporting Act
Weak bail policies, coupled with efforts to decrease police funding, have made our communities less safe. Last week, I introduced the Pretrial Release Reporting Act, with Senator Ron Johnson, to increase transparency surrounding the release of violent felony offenders in State courts.

Financial Services Committee: Reining in the CFPB
The Financial Services Committee held a markup addressing several different pieces of legislation. One in particular, was the CFPB Transparency and Accountability Reform Act, a large legislative reform package that would address the partisan and unaccountable Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Included in the package, which passed in committee, was my Making the CFPB Accountable to Small Businesses Act, legislation that would ensure greater consideration of the impact new regulations would have on small businesses before enactment.
