Dear John,

Advocating for Illinois taxpayers at hearing with the IRS Commissioner

Americans don't want the IRS to control the tax process from start to finish, yet they are laying the groundwork to be both the tax preparer and auditor. At this week's Ways and Means Committee hearing, I pressed the IRS Commissioner on their e-file plans and the importance of improving customer service.

Voting to rein in spending and reduce the deficit

This week, House Republicans advanced legislation to limit spending, save taxpayer money, and grow the economy while responsibly raising the debt limit. Illinois families who work hard must meet budgets and spend money within their means, and it is long past time that the federal government do the same. The Limit, Save, Grow Act is critical legislation that responsibly lifts the debt ceiling and grows our economy while addressing the key drivers of our national debt and unsustainable government spending. I was proud to advocate for the removal of proposed provisions that would harm renewable fuels investment and protect Illinois farmers and ethanol producers who are the lifeblood of our communities in the 16th District.

In a divided government, we will need to come together to address the pending debt limit our nation will reach this summer. Debt ceiling negotiations are nothing new, and President Biden's refusal to come to the negotiating table with Speaker McCarthy is an irresponsible position that threatens our nation's economy. It's time for President Biden and Senate Democrats to get off the sidelines and work with House Republicans to reach a sensible debt ceiling increase that limits reckless Washington spending, saves Illinois taxpayers money, and strengthens our economy.

Touring the IL16 agriculture community

Image

On Saturday in Ogle County, I stopped at Brian Duncan’s farm to do some planting! The ag community is an economic driver for IL16 and our region. I appreciate all the family farmers like Brian who feed and fuel Illinois and teach the next generation of Illinois farmers.

I also toured Wyffels Hybrids this week, a family owned seed company focused on corn and based in Geneseo! Since the 1940s, Wyffels has supported agricultural in Illinois. IL16 is one of the largest ag districts in the country and I will continue to be a voice for farmers in Congress.

Lastly, at the CNH Industrial facility in Goodfield this week, I toured their plant and visited with workers. CNH continues to generate jobs and economic opportunities in central Illinois. I appreciated the visit and discussion on pro-growth policies that can strengthen manufacturing jobs.

I enjoyed visiting with the Scholastic Bowl Team from Streator High School this! They are in DC representing central Illinois in the WorldQuest National Competition after winning the regional competition at Bradley University. Good luck and go Bulldogs!
