John, Good afternoon and welcome to our Weekend Update. Before I update you on the past week in Washington, I want to recap a meeting Shelley, our team, and I had with President Donald J. Trump in Mar-a-Lago. First, President Trump is as passionate as ever about bringing America and, quite frankly, the world back to prosperity after the many policy failures of the Biden administration and the liberal 'woke' Democrat Party. Just a few short years ago, President Trump's America First agenda led to prosperity for so many. Under President Trump, our nation was energy independent and economically prosperous; we had order at the border, respect on the world stage, and so much more. I'm confident he can do it again. He is ready to fight for America, and our meeting was inspiring. It was remarkable how positive and passionate he remains, despite constantly being attacked by the Biden administration, the Democrat Party, and the mainstream media. We are fortunate to have a patriot like President Trump, who cares so deeply for our country that he is willing to fight for us once again. It is so critical that a Republican wins back the White House. I will work tirelessly to help ensure Pennsylvania goes Red for President in 2024.
As I mentioned earlier, we were in Washington this week. I even presided over the House Floor on Friday as the Chamber wrapped up legislative business for the week.
As you have read, Biden officially announced he is running for reelection. As a result, inflation has skyrocketed, our border has been overrun, our standing on the world stage has been questioned, and we’ve lost our energy independence – all of which is Joe Biden’s doing. Recent polling shows that even Democrats don’t want Biden to run again. The American people know better:
And these aren’t exactly polls conducted by the “conservative media" or Republican-leaning outfits. One of the major issues Congress is wrestling with today is the debt ceiling. Unfortunately, the Biden administration and the Democrat Party have only one solution… SPEND MORE TAXPAYER MONEY. House Republicans chose a different path… the path of fiscal stewardship and pro-taxpayer policy. The American people demand and deserve Congress to rein in the astronomical spending of the past three years. The House Republican plan pays our nation’s debts and limits federal excesses moving forward. In addition, the bill on the Floor today creates growth initiatives while saving taxpayers $4.8 trillion. This week, House Financial Services Committee held an all-day markup to vote on several pieces of legislation, including my bill, the Restoring the Secondary Trading Market Act. On Thursday, I attended a Joint Session of Congress to hear from South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. President Yoon stressed the importance of the relationship between our two countries and highlighted our continued commitment to economic cooperation.
We celebrated the 75th Birthday of Israel, one of our nation’s closest allies. I stand with Israel and its people.
I had the opportunity to attend and speak at the “Celebration of US-India Partnerships” Dinner at the Capitol. Thank you to Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu and India in the USA (Embassy of India, Washington DC) for the warm welcome!
On Thursday, I met with several Insurance Agents & Brokers from Pennsylvania to discuss legislative initiatives affecting the industry. I want to thank them for stopping by to chat!
Another critical issue that continues to harm our nation in many ways is Biden’s border crisis. I had the opportunity to ask two federal agencies about the work being done to combat financial crimes committed by cartels that smuggle fentanyl into our country during a hearing hosted by the Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: The Biden border crisis is real and worsening. A few days ago, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed Joe Biden’s border policies are “more safe, orderly, and humane.” HHS whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas told Congress: “It could be argued that the U.S. government has become the middleman in a large scale, multi-billion-dollar, child trafficking operation run by bad actors seeking to profit off of the lives of children.”
That is horrifying and comes after reports from The New York Times showing that 85,000 migrant children have gone missing in the U.S. and that an ever-increasing number of migrant children are being exploited and abused. Further, the Biden administration knew their policies were fueling the surge at the border and that children were being used as they rushed to empty shelters, but ignored the problem. Shamefully, Biden and the Democrats are now silent. This is the worst humanitarian crisis at the border in history, and they have decided to do nothing. It’s worse than that; they’ve decided to claim their agenda is “working.” Again, a significant reason Republicans must win the White House back in 2024.
