John,
I want to thank everyone for
weighing in on whether or not I should attend the State of the
Union (SOTU) tonight.
Deciding to not attend the past
three presidential addresses before Congress had been easy for me
to make, but this year has been different. Should I attend for
the sake of being a part of history? Should I attend to support
my Democratic colleagues in such a hostile environment? Should I
make an exclamation every time the President lies (I’d be
shouting through the entire speech ha!)
Or should I continue my previously private, personal protest, and
actively publicize the fact that I would refuse to attend an
event where the President continues to speak and act like a king,
reveling with Moscow Mitch and the other Senate and House members
who are complicit in tomorrow’s painful and damaging acquittal
that will most certainly take place after an unprecedented
coverup?
I have heard your voices loud and
clear, and I respect your opinion. By a landslide, you have
advised me to continue my protest, and I want to thank you for
helping me confirm my decision which I firmly believe is the
right thing to do.
For those of you who wanted me to attend, I do understand your
viewpoint. I eagerly await the day where we once again have
leadership in the Oval Office that doesn’t befoul the institution
of the Presidency. Until then, I cannot in good faith dignify a
would-be king paying fake respect to the co-equal branch of
government he has tried to dismantle at every turn.
In solidarity,
Hank
