John, as Republicans continue to introduce inhumane anti-refugee legislation in the Homeland Security Committee, I wanted to explain why comprehensive, humane immigration reform means so much to me.

But I know it's Sunday, so it would be quicker to just show you why I fight so hard-

This is my mother, Maria. She crossed the border while pregnant with me, almost losing her life in the process.

This is my husband, Boris. He came to the US when he was just 14-years-old, and worked his hardest to help his family make ends meet.

As the only member of Congress coming from a mixed-status household, I'm fighting for all the other Marias and all the other Borises who just want a better life for themselves and their families.

But Republicans have shown that they care more about inciting fear, ignorance, and hate.

John, my colleagues and I are working hard to push the needle on immigration reform, and my team is working hard to keep you as updated as possible.
