John,
A lack of investment in our care economy has left seniors and people with disabilities without the ability to stay in their homes and stay active in their communities. At the same time, care workers have long been underpaid―disproportionately impacting women and people of color.
Tell Congress: Don’t turn your backs on seniors! Invest in our care economy!
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, large coverage gaps existed in home care for seniors and people with disabilities, with each state setting a cap on the number of individuals who can receive these critical services through Medicaid’s Home and Community Based Services program. This resulted in millions of people not receiving the care they needed and millions of care workers overworked and grossly underpaid.
We must provide high-quality care for our nation’s parents, grandparents, and people with disabilities and create good-paying, union jobs for home care workers. Congress must act now to fix the coverage gaps and wage exploitation that exist in the care system, which affect millions of people and their families.
Take Action: Demand care economy investments!
Thanks,
Social Security Works Team
