** Surrey Heath News
------------------------------------------------------------
Accent Housing: Following my March meeting with Accent, I have continued to be contacted by a number of constituents regarding the issues they are experiencing in their homes. I am eager for these issues to be resolved and continue to correspond with Accent on their behalf to ensure any outstanding problems are resolved as swiftly as possible.

SWR Joint Security Operation: Last week, I took part in a joint security operation with South Western Railway and the British Transport Police, travelling between Ash Vale and Bagshot Stations. It was fascinating to see the British Transport Police and the SWR team in action, and to hear about the work that is taking place to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and fare evasion.

Sandoz: In late April, I visited Sandoz in Camberley, which is the world’s largest manufacturer of off-patent medicines and a leading NHS supplier. It was wonderful to have a tour of the office and to meet the team to discuss the challenges that the sector is facing.

Ability Today: It was such a pleasure to meet Grant Logan, founder of Ability Today, in Chobham last week. Ability Today is an online educational platform, and it was wonderful to hear about all the brilliant work he has been doing to provide training for disabled journalists, with students securing places at the BBC, ITV and Newsquest.

Chobham Sewage Treatment Works: Following my meeting with Thames Water in October regarding the discharges from the Chobham Sewage Treatment Works into the River Bourne, on 21 April, I visited the site to see the £10m upgrade works that are taking place. The upgrade works are increasing the storage capacity to make the site resilient to storm conditions, thus reducing the number of discharges of untreated sewage to the watercourse. I was pleased to see that the construction is well underway, and I understand that the site will see incremental benefits as the elements are completed and commissioned.

M3/A322 Congestion: This week, I held a meeting with the Roads Minister, Richard Holden MP, and a further meeting with representatives from National Highways, to discuss congestion at the M3/A322 Junction. As constituents will know, this is an issue I have been campaigning on for some time, and I am pleased to learn that progress on potential long-term infrastructural change has been made. I will share any updates once I have them.

Rail Services Meeting: Following my meetings regarding the M3/A322 Junction, I met the Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Mark Harper MP, and Rail Minister, Huw Merriman MP, to discuss rail services in Surrey Heath. I was grateful to them for listening to the considerable concerns that my constituents continue to raise with me about the lack of improvement to the service, and I will continue to press for positive change.

NHS Parliamentary Awards: We have a number of brilliant healthcare providers in Surrey Heath, and I wrote to them earlier this month to call for nominees for this year's NHS Parliamentary Awards. I will shortly be submitting the nominees for national recognition and wish them the best of luck.

B&M Camberley: I was delighted to find out that B&M will be opening a store in Camberley this summer, and you can learn more about the great news here ([link removed]) .

New Holiday Let Rules: New rules to give communities greater control over short-term lets in tourist hot spots, while also strengthening the tourism sector, have been unveiled by my Department, and you can find out more here ([link removed]) .

Photo ID Reminder: With local elections just around the corner, the government is encouraging people to check that they have accepted photo identification ready - more details are available here ([link removed]) .

Cladding Companies Warning: I have warned the shareholders in three cladding companies, whose shocking practices were uncovered in evidence heard at the Grenfell Inquiry, that the manufacturers they invest in will face severe consequences if they do not come forward with a comprehensive financial package to fix unsafe buildings. You can read more here ([link removed]) .

Islands Forum Update: The Isle of Wight has been chosen as the location for the second Islands Forum, which I will be chairing on 24th – 25th May. Learn more here ([link removed]) .
