Here’s the latest: in a tight 217-215 vote, House Republicans have passed a debt ceiling bill that reads like a hostage letter: it demands deep cuts to environmental protections and clean energy, including

• slashing the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy provisions; 
• gutting critical environmental protections; and 
• passing new policies to expand fossil fuel development.

As negotiations continue, Republicans are risking global economic catastrophe to demand draconian cuts to virtually every environmental agency — severely curtailing programs that keep communities safe from polluted air, land, and water.

Right now is when we should be increasing, not cutting, funding for environmental protection and spurring clean energy. Instead, House Republicans are insisting on higher energy costs, more greenhouse gas emissions, and job losses for clean energy producers.

It’s bad enough that McCarthy is playing politics with a looming default crisis, Friend. But unless we scale up our campaign, their reckless plan to avoid catastrophe could have horrible consequences for our environment.

The truth is that we need more resources to reach as many Democrats as possible and keep up the pressure not to give in to McCarthy’s hostage-taking.
