Andrew voted to pass the bill out of the Homeland Security Committee, setting it up to see floor consideration when Congress comes back in session. Garbarino (R-N.Y.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) asked Easterly for a description of the goals of the new office, office staff estimations, required resources and how it would integrate with current systemically important designation schemes, among other things. Postal Police Officers serve a critical public safety role. Since they have been confined to postal property, there has been a spike in mail theft and violence, including rising attacks against mail carriers.
