[ [link removed] ]Less than a year after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, 14
states have ‘totally or almost completely banned’ abortions.
Republicans are only SIX seats short of winning anti-abortion majorities
in both chambers of Congress – and many of them have already voiced
support for a national abortion ban if they win control next year.
[ [link removed] ]In the House and Senate, these pro-choice women with backgrounds in
medicine and science have LED THE FIGHT to defend abortion access year
after year. But before we go into detail, we’re asking if you’ll give
$10 before midnight so we can power their efforts to protect
abortion rights >>
[ [link removed] ]DONATE TO ELECT PRO-CHOICE WOMEN »
[ Rep. ]Rep. Kim Schrier, MDRep. Kim Schrier, MD, is a physician that made
history as the first Democrat to win Washington’s 8th Congressional
District in history. Her race was considered one of the most competitive
and expensive House races in 2018 and House Republicans have already
labeled defeating her a top priority of theirs.
That hasn’t stopped her from being a fearless leader on reproductive
rights: She introduced the Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care
Act after Roe v. Wade was overturned to PROTECT doctors who provide legal
abortion care from criminal penalties, fines, and jail time.
Reminder: In 20 states, doctors can be threatened with 2-15 years of jail
time for violating GOP abortion bans, in some cases even if it is to save
the life of the mother.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ Rep. ]Rep. Lauren Underwood, RNRep. Lauren Underwood, RN, is one of the only
pro-choice nurses in Congress and is the youngest Black woman ever elected
to Congress. Not only did she win a historically GOP-held House seat in
2018 but her 2020 race was so close her opponent didn’t concede for WEEKS!
Lauren sponsored the historic Black Maternal Health Momnibus, a group of
more than one dozen bills aimed at addressing maternal health, infant
mortality, and the health of mothers in the aftermath of their pregnancies
in modern history.
Reminder: Women of color in the United States are far more likely to die
from pregnancy-related causes and Republicans have targeted funding for
Medicaid and reproductive health care service providers who try to help
expecting and recent mothers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ Rep. ]Rep. Melanie StansburyRep. Melanie Stansbury is one of the few
environmental experts in Congress who won a landmark and historic special
election in 2021 despite the odds (and flipped a tough-as-nails GOP seat
in the state legislature prior).
Melanie co-sponsored the My Body, My Data Act of 2022 after Roe v. Wade
was overturned, which would protect information and data related to sexual
and reproductive health from being sold or accessed by Republicans looking
to target women in states where abortion is illegal (or to pursue women
who seek abortion care in abortion safe havens out-of-state).
Reminder: Republicans in a dozen states have moved to restrict who can
access mail related to abortion care and several states have expressed
interest in tracking private travel and menstrual information of women to
prosecute them for bypassing GOP abortion bans.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ Rep. ]Rep. Yadira Caraveo, MDRep. Yadira Caraveo, MD, is a pediatrician who
became the go-to expert for public health and healthcare related
legislation in Colorado’s local politics. Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight
gave Yadira Caraveo a 91% chance of losing this newly created House
district. Yadira won this LIKELY Republican race by less than 2,000 votes.
In Congress, Yadira joined the Pro Choice Caucus where she helped
introduce a resolution to reaffirm the FDA’s authority to approve
medication for abortion care after a conservative judge tried to BAN the
most commonly prescribed abortion pill in all 50 states.
Reminder: A federal court just revoked FDA approval of mifepristone, a
drug that has been proven safe and effective for abortion care for more
than two decades, bucking scientific evidence in favor of political
ideology.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ Sen. ]Sen. Tammy Baldwin[ [link removed] ]Tammy Baldwinhas a background in mathematics, and
made history as the first LGBTQ woman ever elected to both the House and
the Senate in U.S. history. Republicans won Wisconsin’s Senate race last
November by just 1% and experts predict her race will be decided by razor
thin margins.
In the Senate, Tammy introduced the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2023,
a comprehensive bill that would restore reproductive rights to the
millions of Americans living under abortion bans, effectively codifying
Roe v. Wade into law once and for all.
Reminder: In Wisconsin, the state Tammy represents, a 1849 abortion ban is
currently in effect that criminalizes abortions throughout the state.
