“There's always shootings, there's always shooting. There's always people calling the cops and there's nothing being done."

A simple request from a neighbor turned deadly last night, John. And the tragedy was made worse because the gunman used an assault weapon.
This man was known to shoot his gun in his front yard – firing a weapon meant for a battlefield in front of his house. When neighbors asked him to stop so their baby could sleep, the man turned his weapon on them. He shot and killed five people, including a teen and an 8-year-old boy, because of a noise complaint.

These weapons are not meant to be in civilian hands, John. They are meant for combat and destruction. Those who handle assault weapons in the military receive extensive training to operate them, while people like this gunman get drunk and shoot around for fun. Now, three adults and two children are dead and yet another community is forever changed.
We cannot keep living like this, John. We cannot continue to allow people to die like this. In the wake of yet another mass shooting, we are asking you to join our urgent call:
Last night’s shooting in Cleveland, TX, marks the 174th mass shooting in the United States just this year. It’s long past time for our lawmakers to take lifesaving action and we won’t let them ignore the gun violence epidemic any longer. Will you add your name to our urgent petition to call on Congress to ban assault weapons and finally save lives? >>
