WEEKLY UPDATE April 28th, 2023 Dear Kansas friends, Thank you for your interest in receiving my newsletter. Please feel free to share this with your friends and family. I Voted YES on the Limit, Save, Grow Act I voted YES on the Limit, Save, Grow Act. For the past two years, Democrats have been recklessly swiping America's credit card with no regard for our skyrocketing national debt. It's immoral and irresponsible to raise the debt limit without addressing our country's unchecked federal spending. The debt ceiling proposal House Republicans passed today will cut wasteful federal spending, save trillions of taxpayer dollars, and put forward pro-growth policies to strengthen our economy. It's time for President Biden to come to the table and work with Republicans to get Washington's fiscal house in order. America is nearly $32,000,000,000,000 in debt—that’s $250K per taxpayer. It’s time for President Biden to come to the table and work with House Republicans to get Washington's spending under control. It's immoral to leave our children and grandchildren with the burden of our generation's reckless spending. The White House's refusal to negotiate on the debt limit puts America's economy in jeopardy. House Republicans took action and passed a bill to raise the debt limit and end reckless spending in Washington. President Biden: the ball is in your court. The Buck Stops With Biden Not even two years after the Biden administration's botched withdrawal, ISIS is once again using Afghanistan as a staging ground for terror attacks against American and European targets. Today I voted to level the playing field for American manufacturers by ending Biden's solar emergency and restoring tariffs on Chinese-made solar panels. There's a simple solution: secure the border. Watch HERE STOP Fentanyl Act Fentanyl is the number one killer of Americans 18 to 45—killing more than 75,000 people last year. It's time to take action. I'm proud to cosponsor the STOP Fentanyl Act to strengthen penalties for criminals who sell and distribute this deadly drug in our communities. TOPEKA CAREER FAIR I'm hosting a Career Fair in Topeka on May 3rd to help connect businesses with eager Kansans looking to re-enter the workforce. This is a FREE EVENT for anyone interested in a full or part-time job. I hope to see you there! RSVP HERE Remembering My Grandma Ruby My Grandma Ruby passed away last week at the age of 91. She was my rock. Growing up with a wonderful, hardworking single father, living next door to my grandparents was invaluable. The love and support they heaped upon my brother, sister, and I saved us in so many ways. She was born in indescribable poverty at the height of the Great Depression. I remember her sadly describing how she dropped out of high school because she only had one dress to wear and couldn’t bear being made fun of by the other kids anymore. Despite these challenges, she didn’t let her circumstances define her. She married my late Grandpa Joe in 1951, raised six children, and in her late 30s, she finished her education and became a nurse. She was devoted to our faith, was the best crocheter in town, and loved going to the casinos. She largely expressed her love for her children and grandchildren through action. She cooked countless meals for my siblings and me, kept us clothed from her Friday rummage sale trips with her sisters, taught me how to drive, how to waltz, how to cook, and was an example of tremendous faith. No matter what the endeavor, Grandma Ruby was always my biggest cheerleader. Late last week, when she was still able to communicate, I told her I loved her. She struggled but managed to say it back. I asked her if she was ready to go to heaven, and she nodded yes. Then I asked if she was scared, and she shook her head no. What more can you ask for? I will think about her every day for the rest of my life. She will be missed. This video was my tribute to her on the house floor for her 90th birthday last year. My dad was kind enough to go to her and turn on C-SPAN so that she could see it live. Watch HERE 75th Anniversary of Israel's Independence This week marked 75 years of Israel's independence! The relationship between the United States and Israel was born out of our shared belief in freedom and democracy. I will always stand with our strongest friend and ally in the Middle East. Meeting with the Kansas City Chamber Grateful to have had the opportunity to address the Kansas City Chamber last week. We talked about the projects I'm working on in our communities and how House Republicans are fighting to empower small businesses across Kansas. Thanks for having me! Rep.
