Democratic pro-choice women are saving abortion rights
John,
As an EMILYs List supporter, you know better than anyone that it's been a rough month for abortion rights. But it's not all doom and gloom. EMILYs List-endorsed women across the country, at all levels of government, are working hard to protect reproductive rights in their communities.
These women give me hope, because I know that their work is the only way we're going to restore, preserve, and expand abortion rights nationwide.
To help keep these pro-choice champions in office — and to help elect even more — donate toward our $150,000 End-of-Month goal today.
So, as promised, here's some good news for your weekend:
- Last week, the Nevada state Senate — led by majority leader and EMILYs List Rising Star Award nominee Sen. Nicole Cannizzaro — passed legislation protecting abortion patients and providers from out-of-state prosecution. (Fun fact: the Nevada Legislature is the first-ever majority-women legislature in the country!) It also advanced a bill that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. Vice President Kamala Harris, during a visit to the Silver State, said: "What you are doing at the statewide level is so important… Nevada is showing the way."
- Colorado Democrats — led by EMILYs List-endorsed women including state Sen. Julie Gonzales, Sen. Sonya Jaquez Lewis, Rep. Meg Froelich, and Rep. Brianna Titone — recently passed a package of pro-choice bills, including an out-of-state protection law similar to Nevada's. Since abortion is either banned or under threat in most of its surrounding states, this legislation helps cement Colorado as an abortion refuge for people across the West and Southwest.
- Finally, in New Mexico, pro-choice champion and longtime EMILYs List candidate Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham recently signed a bill into law that prohibits any interference with an individual's access not only to reproductive care — including abortion — but also to gender-affirming care.
When Democratic pro-choice women have a seat at the table, better decisions get made. That's the whole reason EMILYs List exists, and it's why we work so hard, year after year and cycle after cycle, to elect and reelect women who make our country better.
Donate now to help fuel this work, hit our $150,000 End-of-Month goal, and support hundreds of women fighting to protect choice nationwide:
