John,
It might be cliche to say we celebrate Earth Day
every day. But for our alums working on climate resilience, protecting clean air and water, and fighting for climate justice on the state and local level it is
certainly true.
Here's how they're doing it:
☀️
Yassamin Ansari, now Vice Mayor of Phoenix, is an internationally recognized climate leader. She has enacted policies around transportation electrification, led the charge to pass Phoenix’s first Climate Action Plan, and is committed to building a more sustainable and equitable city where everyone can afford to live and thrive.
🌱
DeAndrea Salvador — also the youngest Senator in North Carolina — is another climate leader in the legislature. She founded a non-profit focused on helping families sustainably reduce energy costs, consulted the City of Charlotte’s Sustainable Energy Action Plan, and was a key player in the passage of HB 951, a landmark energy bill that aims to achieve carbon neutrality for North Carolina by 2050.
🌧️
Rae Vander Werf is an American River Flood Control District Trustee in California who has worked with the board to make some impactful changes. They're advocating for carbon tracking and carbon neutrality, and have given voice to the community by making all meetings publicly accessible.
These are just a few of the diverse young climate champions we've supported, and there are hundreds more where they came from. Chip in
$5
or whatever you can to ensure healthy communities and a healthy planet one state and local election at a time.

We know that solving the
many existential environmental crises our planet faces can’t be done with one law, policy, or one election cycle.
It will require a massive, concerted effort at
every level of government and in
every single election to build the kind of political will and infrastructure for change our planet requires. In short, we need more environmental champions running for office.
From city councils to state legislatures, RFS candidates and alumni make huge impacts that ripple through their communities - including the air we breathe.
Do something for the planet today and chip in
$5
or any amount you can to elect these kinds of climate champions to state and local offices everywhere – and we’ll continue to recruit, support, and ELECT them.
Let's go,
