John,
I wanted to make sure you saw Deborah’s email from yesterday. We’ve spent so much time fighting back against right-wing cuts to human needs programs that we’re coming up short for this months’ fundraising goal.
Now that the House has passed Speaker McCarthy’s bill, it’s headed to the Senate where we need to ensure there is no vote to cut critical funding to human needs programs.
Make an end-of-month contribution today so that we can meet our fundraising goal and prepare for the fight ahead.
Thank you for all you do,
Nicolai Haddal Field & Events Manager, Coalition on Human Needs
-- DEBORAH'S EMAIL --
John,
Everyone deserves the right to a safe home, nutritious food, and quality health care. In the wealthiest country in the world, the U.S. can provide that -- but instead, right-wing politicians are trying to gut funding for critical programs that help the aging, the poor, and people with disabilities, while at the same time giving their ultra-wealthy donor friends massive tax cuts. It’s unconscionable.
Speaker McCarthy’s radical policy wishlist, passed by the House, will do nothing but inflict pain and suffering on the majority of the American public. Speaker McCarthy’s plan includes cutting funding to Medicaid by imposing stringent and unnecessary work requirements for recipients. This will have devastating effects in states that expanded Medicaid eligibility with an estimated 10 million people at risk of losing their Medicaid coverage.1 The House bill also adds 50-55 year-olds to those subject to harsh time limits in SNAP - taking food away from people with very low incomes after only 3 months if they cannot document enough work. Nearly 1 million more people would be at risk of losing SNAP.
We’ve been working non-stop to block these draconian cuts, including funding for health care, housing , meals for older people, child care, and a lot more, plus fighting back against the House plan to cut IRS funds to collect the taxes owed by wealthy and corporate tax cheats.
We’ve focused so much energy and resources this month in opposing Kevin McCarthy’s bad deal that we’re coming up short on this month's fundraising. And with the battle now shifting to the Senate, we need your end-of-month support today to fuel the fight ahead.
Donate $5 now to put fight back against these cruel cuts.

President Biden’s fiscal year 2024 budget proves that we can expand critical programs for people with low incomes when the ultra-wealthy and corporations finally start paying their fair share.
The fight now moves to the Senate. We must keep up the pressure to defend against cuts and demand the Senate expand human needs programs, which are already so underfunded that any cuts would be dire.
Make an end-of-month contribution of $5 today to prepare for the fight ahead.
Thank you for all you do to support vulnerable communities,
