Hello Friends, It’s been a busy week here in Washington, D.C. In the news, you may have heard about Congress raising the debt limit. This week, the Republican House majority passed their so-called solution to the debt ceiling crisis. But, the bill they passed is a far cry from a real solution. The Republican plan cuts veterans' health care benefits, undermines programs Granite Staters rely on, and threatens national security.

These negotiations are ongoing, and I will keep you updated as the debate continues.

The debt ceiling is the total amount of money the United States can borrow to pay our existing debts – almost like a credit card bill.
Since 1960, Congress has raised the ceiling 78 times — 49 times under Republican presidents and 29 times under Democratic presidents, including three times under the Trump administration.
Economists now project that the day the government could default on our debt will likely come this spring or summer.
|
Defaulting on our debt would be disastrous.
|
Let me be clear; if we fail to raise the debt limit and default on our debt, the outcome will be catastrophic for our economy and country.
I support a clean debt ceiling increase, a law that will raise the debt ceiling so we can pay our debt and end this crisis.
|
I was proud to lead over 200 colleagues in a letter urging a clean debt ceiling increase to protect our economy.
|
I'm calling on House Republican leadership to stop playing games and pass a clean debt ceiling increase to keep our economy going while we work together to pass a responsible budget.
Once we do that, we can come to the table knowing our economic system is secure and have serious discussions about future federal spending and fiscal responsibility.
These negotiations are ongoing, and I will keep you updated as the debate continues.
Let's get this done. Learn more about our plan for a clean debt ceiling increase here: https://bit.ly/3oHbpK4

Thank you to the survivors and advocates for sharing their stories.
|
No child should be subjected to sexual assault or abuse — yet, that is the chilling reality for millions of kids across our country.
This week, my Task Force to End Sexual Violence hosted a roundtable with actor and child sexual abuse survivor Anthony Edwards, survivor and dancer Grace French, and other advocates.
|
Thank you to award-winning actor Anthony Edwards, of Top Gun and ER, for your continued advocacy.
|
During the roundtable, the group discussed the need for policy reforms to prevent future children from experiencing sexual violence and expand access to support and justice resources for survivors.
|
Together, we will change this conversation and keep our youngest generations safe.
|
I will continue fighting to end the scourge of sexual assault, hold abusers accountable, and support survivors as they recover and heal.
|
Thank you for sharing your stories, Justin, Peter, and Mark!

I had the pleasure of meeting with several constituents this week to discuss ways my office was able to assist them in navigating the government and federal programs. As the representative for New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District, my most important job is serving and supporting Granite Staters.
From navigating federal agencies to accessing your hard-earned benefits, my office is here to help!
|
Whether you’re at home or traveling, we are here to help!
|
Whether you are like Justin of Warren, who needed support with a tax redundancy; Peter from Loudon, who had a passport issue while traveling; or Mark from Danbury, a retired public servant and air force veteran who could not access his retirement account, my office is here to support you.
If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please reach out to my Concord office at (603) 226-1002.

Also, this month, the Biden administration asked states to use Medicaid funds to cover opioid addiction treatment in correctional facilities. I’m pleased to see this move from the White House, but we must do more.
We need to end the vicious cycle of addiction and incarceration — and that starts with ensuring justice-involved individuals have access to the support and treatment they need to recover.
That’s why I am leading legislation to reinstate Medicaid coverage for incarcerated individuals — including treatment for mental health and substance use disorders — to help them successfully return to their communities and save state and taxpayer dollars.

I will always fight for our nation’s veterans.

PACT Act Benefits: I was proud to help pass the PACT Act to ensure our veterans and their families affected by burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances can access the care they need.
If you or a loved one has filed a PACT Act claim with the VA, you can check your status here. For more assistance, you can call the VA at 1-800-827-1000.
