They said it couldn't be done. But in 2019, the ACLU and a strong coalition of families pressured California lawmakers to pass and sign AB 392 – a bill to address one of the most pressing forms of police violence afflicting black and brown communities in the state.

With this new law, California went from having one of the deadliest, most permissive use of force laws in the country, to having one of the strongest.

The California Act to Save Lives (AB 392) was the primary focus of last year's lobby day, attended by hundreds of everyday Californians who showed up in our state's capitol to make a difference. Let's do it again.
