John -
We have a problem. If we don’t flip the Texas House blue in November, Texas Republicans will control the 2021 redistricting process.
That means our Congressional maps will be gerrymandered - for the next decade.
Republicans only have one goal in mind - use extreme partisan gerrymandering tactics to hold power in Texas. They want to choose their own voters instead of letting voters choose who leads them. This isn’t only an attack on our principles but on our democracy too - and they aren't giving up until the job is done in 2021.
We’ve seen these same partisan gerrymandering tactics hurt Texans in the past. In 2003, Republicans rigged the maps by splitting up communities into different districts - and specifically targeted my mentor, Rep. Martin Frost, and his district.
But that only sparked a fire in me to keep fighting. I led the efforts to undo the Republican redistricting plan and stopped them from dismantling new minority districts across North Texas. I’ve fought against extreme partisan gerrymandering my entire career - now I am asking for your help to join us in this fight again.
Texans agree that extreme partisan gerrymanders don't belong in a democracy. Republicans got away with extreme gerrymandering in 2003, and they're going to do it again in 2021 IF we don't take action to stop them. Elected officials should not be able to choose their own voters.
We aren’t going anywhere - and now is your chance to send a message by adding your name to our petition calling for Congress to pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act.
The Voting Rights Advancement Act restores the portion of the Voting Rights Act that requires states and local jurisdictions with a history of discrimination to get pre-approval from the federal government to pass new voting laws or make changes to the election process. Take a stand for voting rights - add your name to the petition today >>>
Texans MUST flip the House blue in 2020 to ensure fair maps in 2021. With your help, we can bring change to Texas and stop Republicans from attacking our democracy.
