John,
A judge just ruled against our preliminary injunction motion on behalf of father and free speech activist Shawn McBrearity.
Which means that the rogue Hampden School Board in Regional School Unit 22 (RSU22) can continue to unlawfully throw Shawn out of school board meetings if he voices his concerns over their questionable policies and curriculum.
John, I won’t sugarcoat it – this ruling is a blow to free speech and parental rights, but we’re not giving up.
In fact, we’re appealing this decision immediately, but we need your help.
Which is why I’m asking you for an end of the month, double impact gift of $35 or more today to help us fund this appeal and our other critical lawsuits.
In can you missed the details of Shawn McBrearity’s case, let me catch you up.
Shawn is a concerned parent who lives in Hampden, Maine.
He began attending school board meetings and voicing his concerns when he saw the curriculum his daughter was being taught.
Shawn was worried that his daughter was being forced to read radical and inappropriate materials without parental consent.
But, when Shawn directly called out school board members, he was sued by the school board, banned from school board meetings, and was even barred from his daughter’s graduation ceremony.
That’s when the Center for American Liberty stepped in to defend Shawn and protect parental rights.
With your support, our local counsel was able to win a lawsuit on behalf of Shawn where the school was forced to pay $40,000 in settlement fees.
We then won an Anti-SLAPP motion on behalf of Shawn and the court ordered that Shawn be allowed to attend and speak at school board meetings.
But, in DIRECT defiance of the court order, RSU22 officials threw Shawn out of meetings in January and February.
Which is why we’re AGAIN suing RSU22 for their unconstitutional, free speech-stifling actions.
And that’s why I’m asking for your help today.
Thanks to a generous donor, every donation you make between now and May 1st with be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000! Will you make a tax-deductible donation of $35 or more today?
Unfortunately, the judge ruled against our motion for a preliminary injunction so that Shawn could safely attend school board meetings as the case progresses.
We’re immediately appealing this decision to defend Shawn, parental rights, and free speech.
As you know, we’re committed to defending our Constitution at every turn.
Which means that cases like these, even if they’re in a small town in Maine, are incredibly important.
If we allow the radical left to get away with infringing on our rights in one place, they’ll try to do it everywhere.
It truly is the responsibility of patriots like you and me to take a stand and fight back with everything we have.
So please, renew your support today with a gift of $35 or more today which will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000.
Thank you for your continued support.
