Tonight, Donald Trump will give his State of the Union address, but we are fairly certain he is going to leave some key points out.
He’s not going to say that 100 Americans are killed by guns every day.
Nor will he mention that Mitch McConnell has refused to hold a vote on universal background checks for the last 342 days since the bipartisan bill was passed in the House.
Trump isn’t going to mention these facts because the gun lobby spent more than $30 million to elect him in 2016 — and it’s paid off for them.
Trump has done nothing to end the scourge of gun violence in this country, even though a majority of Americans — Democrats, Republicans, and independents — support commonsense reforms like universal background checks on all gun sales.
Trump has shown such an excellent return on investment for the gun lobby that we know they’ll invest even more money to re-elect him. So that’s why today we’re asking:
Thank you for your support. If every single one of us does our part, next year we will hear a State of the Union address from a Gun Safety President.
