Marianne Williamson for President
Friend,

Martin Luther King Junior said “the desegregation of the American South is the political externalization of the goal of the civil rights movement, but the real goal is the establishment of the Beloved Community.”

That needs to be our goal, too.

It’s not enough to understand that the social atomization created by an economically dog-eat-dog world is destroying us.

We need to understand why it’s destroying us – why an economy that favors a few at the expense of the many is counter to our natural state of being.

We are hardwired to love one another, and systems that do not honor that inevitably crumble and fall.

We can begin again, and course-correct.

We can take the best of modern civilization and marry it to the truth in our hearts – to the imperatives of justice and compassion and our desire for belonging.

Then we will achieve the Beloved Community.

Then we will repair the world.

This is not a flowery, utopian fantasy; it is the only sustainable option for the human race.

Some say it’s naïve of us to think we could create a green world with a fair economy, governed not by unjust economic principles but by humanitarian values.

I say what’s naïve is for us to think we will survive another hundred years on this planet if we don’t at least try.

As president, that is what I will do.
