Highly intelligent animals, needless suffering

A million octopuses a year will be tortured and killed in the world's first octopus farm -- if a Spanish company gets its way.

But scientists and the media are slamming them already, and our petition is going viral on Facebook. Add your name and let's stop this octopus torture before it starts:

Take Action!

John,

A company in Spain has a plan to torture a million octopuses per year – by raising them in crowded tanks and then killing them by putting them in icy water, which causes a slow, stressful death.

The company knows octopuses are highly intelligent and feel pleasure, pain, joy and fear, but this is their way of turning a huge profit selling them for food. Now they’re being slammed by scientists and the media – and if enough of us add to the pressure right now, we can stop them.

Sign the petition -- already going viral on Facebook -- to the Spanish multinational Nueva Pescanova, calling on them to stop their octopus torture farm!

Octopuses are eaten all over the world, and the race to discover the secret to breeding them in captivity has been going on for decades. Now Nueva Pescanova thinks its made a breakthrough and wants to create a million-octopus farm in the Canary Islands.

Their plans reveal that the octopuses, which are solitary animals who prefer the dark, would be kept crammed in tanks with other octopuses, at times under constant light, before their painful and cruel slaughter.

Everyone knows that our existing farming practices are often inhumane and terrible for animals like cows, chicken, and pigs. We should be fighting to stop these practices -- not expanding them to highly-intelligent species, just so corporations can make a few extra dollars of profit.

If you agree, sign on and help us spread the petition far and wide -- let's stop the world's first octopus torture farm before it ever gets started:
