Dear John,

In just three days time, our campaign will face our biggest reporting deadline of the entire election. It couldn’t come at a more critical time for us — Election Day is 18 days away and our efforts trying to stop the abuse of Sheriff’s Sales are paying off. We’re garnering more and more attention, response, and allies in the fight to stop the Sheriff’s Office from stealing people’s money.

Alexandra just put more of her own money into this campaign because she believes in our movement and cause. If you’re ready to help us reach our end-of-month goal of $20,000 before midnight on May 1, donate now.

Chip in now!

Last week, Alexandra blew the whistle on the Sheriff’s Office. We’ve found evidence of hundreds (if not thousands) of examples where the Sheriff’s Office misappropriated funds through abusive Sheriff’s Sales. And when it was clear the Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t stop, Alexandra took it straight to the press. Read more here.

This week, we rallied our supporter base. Dozens of people turned out in person this Tuesday to protest what’s been happening for decades at the Sheriff’s Office.

What’s happening here in Philadelphia isn’t unique. There are reports of the same kind of abuses in Sheriff’s Departments all across the country. Even the conservative Supreme Court is set to rule in favor of a Minneapolis victim of the exact same kind of Sheriff Sale abuse (read more about the SCOTUS case, here).

So how has the Philly Sheriff’s Office responded, now that the word is out about their decades long scheme?

Instead of working to resolve the problem here in Philly, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office doubled down and is refusing to take accountability. In fact, they targeted Alexandra and the campaign in a series of malicious lies and defamatory attacks — from the actual head of the Sheriff’s Office — intended to discredit our efforts.

Now: We’ve had to issue a formal legal statement to try to get these attacks to stop. Alexandra isn’t going to stop speaking truth to power, and holding certain departments accountable for their unscrupulous actions.

The worst part: This is just a game to these people. The more money and attention they can drain from our campaign fighting their lies instead of using our resources on getting out the vote — that’s why they are really doing this. And those lawyer bills are also a big reason why we’ve had to launch such an ambitious goal of raising another $20,000 before our last reporting deadline, May 1st.

Alexandra has already paid our campaign attorney out of her own pocket to cover the legal expenses we’ve incurred fighting back so far. But we know this fight will keep coming...

To keep our team on track, we need everyone here to help us match what Alexandra’s already put in this fight. Can you donate $15 or more to help us keep fighting the lies and keep up our voter turnout efforts? We need every single dollar right now — but we’re too close to give up.

We’re pulling ahead in this election and just need to keep up the momentum. Thank you for helping us get across this last finish line.

In solidarity,

Team Hunt

Alexandra Hunt is a public health researcher, a girls’ soccer coach, an advocate for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, and a community organizer.

She's the daughter of two teachers and a sister to a twin brother with a learning disability. Seeing the systemic obstacles her brother faced inspired Alexandra to become an advocate and challenge barriers on the basis of race, gender, class, and ability.

Now, Alexandra's running to be the Philly's next City Controller because the people in Philly work too hard for too little. And right now, line items in budgets create lines for food and health care. It's time to elect a City Controller who is going to prioritize the needs of the communities Philly's money comes from.
