Friend,

We had a busy week meeting with Iowans and advocating for the issues that matter most to our state.

Late last week, Republican leadership unveiled legislation – the Limit, Save, Grow Act – to cut spending and responsibly raise the debt ceiling. Unfortunately, the initial version of the bill eliminated key biofuels tax credits. I, alongside the Iowa delegation and Governor Reynolds, got straight to work to protect biofuels and Iowa's economy, and we successfully protected funding for these key tax credits in the House passed legislation.

I’m proud of our teamwork as a delegation and was proud to support the Limit, Save, Grow Act – a reasonable solution that will save taxpayers over $3 trillion dollars. This legislation cuts wasteful spending, reclaims unspent COVID funds, stops President Biden’s student loan giveaway, rolls back costly regulations, and strengthens work requirements. In exchange for these fiscally conservative policies, the debt limit would be responsibly lifted.

Unfortunately, President Biden refuses to come to the negotiating table. He has to stop spending like there is no tomorrow and forcing our kids and grandkids to foot the bill, and I'll continue pushing him to work with us to advance commonsense economic solutions to reduce inflation and tackle our growing debt.

I will continue advocating for our Iowa priorities – from protecting farmers to restoring fiscal responsibility – and I'll never back down. Read on for more information on my work for Iowans this week!

Best,

House Appropriations Hearing

FSGG Subcommittee with FTC Chair Lina Kahn

This week, Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Kahn came before the House Appropriations Committee. I asked her about the FTC's plans to pile on the paperwork for Americans who want to buy a family car – yet another overreaching and unnecessary effort from the Biden Administration to grow the federal bureaucracy and control every aspect of our lives.

I will keep up the fight against bureaucratic red tape and government intrusion that makes your life more difficult and more expensive. Watch my questions here.

Championing Maternal Health

I was honored to receive the DSM Every Day Counts Maternal Health Champion Award for my efforts to improve maternal health care access! I will continue fighting to ensure expecting mothers and their babies receive the care they need.

Fighting Fentanyl

The Chinese Communist Party is using fentanyl as a weapon against the U.S.. We know Chinese criminal organizations and Mexican drug cartels are working together to ship deadly fentanyl into our country, killing Americans at an alarming rate. They are turning a profit off of American suffering, and we must stop fentanyl from flowing into our country across the Southern Border.

Meeting with Iowans in DC

Cedar Valley Coalition

It was great to meet with so many leaders from the Cedar Valley who are passionate about improving the community this week. I will continue to be a fierce advocate for our Cedar Valley priorities in Congress and am proud to work alongside these local leaders to deliver results for families, schools, and small businesses.

Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors

I enjoyed meeting with the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors Association in DC to discuss their work to support local distributors and brewers. Cheers!

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight

My team greeted Iowa veterans from the Eastern Iowa Honor flight in DC this week at the World War II Memorial and welcomed them back home in Cedar Rapids. We will never be able to fully repay our veterans for their service and sacrifice to our nation.

Iowa Big "I"

I joined the Big "I" for a conversation about the important services independent insurance agents provide for Iowa families and small businesses! It was great to see so many Iowans in the room advocating for important policies, including keeping small business tax cuts permanent and improving flood insurance.

Farm Bureau Mutual Group

The Farm Bureau Mutual Group stopped by my office this week to discuss how we can work together to ensure the 2023 Farm Bill meets the unique insurance needs of farmers and includes risk management tools, like the federal crop insurance program.

National Community Pharmacists Association

Community pharmacies provide Iowans with accessible, quality health care – especially in rural communities. I had a great meeting with Iowans from the National Community Pharmacists Association this week to discuss the issues facing community pharmacies across Iowa.
