Democracy with a Real Democratic Choice

Who remembers 1998? That was the last time voters in our 7th Congressional District (then called the CA-3) had a choice of at least two Democratic primary candidates for the U.S. House. This is part of what makes Jeff Burdick’s candidacy so exciting and historic.

Now that mail-in voting has officially started, we need every voter who is tired of politics as usual to take advantage of this rare choice. Start by checking out these 10 reasons to be excited by Jeff. Then compare him against the other Democrat, our corporate-backed incumbent.

Bera Gives 99 Billion Reasons for Fundraising Reform

When Jeff calls Bera the poster boy for campaign finance reform, it’s not an exaggeration.  Bera is one of the most corporate-backed members of Congress in the nation – and not by the best kind of corporations.

A recent exclusive analysis by Burdick for Congress has revealed last year Bera raised $150,000 from 69 corporations that also paid a whopping $99 billion in federal and state fines/penalties combined since 2000.

So it’s up to us voters to rip Bera’s poster down and show the entire nation how we take back our democracy. And that’s by first voting for Jeff, who has taken the most principled fundraising pledge in the nation and is ready to fight to pass a nonpartisan Election Reform Constitutional Amendment to end our long, dark era of corporate-backed politicians like Bera.

We can’t match Bera’s outside corporate money, but we don’t need to. Provided we can make Top 2 in this primary, we will then grind out a win over the next 9 months by making clear to all voters the real, pro-voter, principled choice they finally have this election cycle.
