Run for Something

Hi there! Me again.

I just wanted to make sure that, in the chaos of the last 24 hours, you had the chance to read our 2020 strategic plan.

We're proud to be one of the only organizations to get this detailed in public about their strategy. Transparency matters; you deserve to know exactly what we’re doing with the money we’ve raised, how we’ve met the goals we laid out, and why we’re making certain decisions.

As always, if you've got questions or want to help, you can email us: [email protected]

Thanks!

Hi there --

It's a slow week in politics -- just the Iowa Caucuses tonight, the State of the Union tomorrow, a possible end to the impeachment trial later this week, and another Democratic primary debate on Friday! Which means there's no time like the present to release our 2020 strategic plan.

In all seriousness: While there's so much going on and attention is so scattered, we're staying focused in 2020 on the same thing we've prioritized since day one: Recruiting and supporting amazing candidates for local office in order to build sustainable power for Democrats.

I think you'd really enjoy reading through the plan for yourself, but here are a few of the highlights:

  • This year, we're focusing on recruitment in the key states in which Democrats need to flip state legislative seats: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. We want to recruit candidates like it’s going to be the highest turn-out election of our lifetimes, then target our support like every race will be a nail-biter.
  • We're also supporting candidates in critical battleground states for the presidential election, Senate races and gubernatorial races, including — but not limited to — Maine, Montana, Alabama, Iowa, Arizona, Colorado, New Hampshire, Georgia, and Michigan.
  • We're not writing any candidate or state off; we'll continue to work with as many folks as we have capacity for (it's possible we endorse 1000 candidates this year alone!) but given that we have to focus our efforts, we want to ensure our candidates are ginning up turn-out for Democrats in the states our party needs it most.

Learn more about the what, why, and how we plan to pay for it all here.

One other key point? To fully fund our program this year (without adding any staff or running any additional recruitment programs) and end 2020 with enough in the bank to stay open into 2021 no matter what happens, we need to raise more money this year than we did in 2019.

These aren't small goals -- but they're all 100% reachable if this team comes together. Today, can you chip in $15 toward candidate recruitment in more than a dozen key states?

Thanks!
