An interview with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick
Good afternoon! This is an Extra Texas Minute for Friday, April 28, 2023. Texas Scorecard's managing editor, Brandon Waltens, just completed an exclusive interview with Lt Gov. Dan Patrick covering property taxes, the progress of the legislative session, and the likelihood of a special session.
- How the Senate got their priorities done.
- A discussion about the Senate’s property tax plan.
- The prospects for school choice.
- The likelihood for a special session.
Patrick points towards the House’s delay in starting to hear legislation as one reason that chamber is behind in passing priorities.
“They did not work as many days early in session as the Senate. They weren’t passing bills early,” said Patrick. “Most of our bills have been over there some for almost a month. And I don’t know why they started on a slow pace, but they just did.”
“Now, if the Speaker really wants to move it… they can make it fly as well.”
- “I never ever make plans for the summer after session,” said Patrick. “There’s nothing wrong with a special session, people elected us to work and get the job done. And it is tough.”
