Dear John,

I have some exciting news to share with you all!

Today, I announced that a bachelor’s degree will no longer be required for any position in my congressional office.

In my office, job applicants will be evaluated by their work ethic, work and life experience and ability to do the job in front of them – regardless of whether or not they have a piece of paper.

An expensive, four-year college degree shouldn’t be the default requirement in our country. Experience should count as well.

I’ve long made it a priority to expand educational opportunities across Minnesota. In Congress, I’m working with my colleagues to pass the National Apprenticeship Act, which invests in and expands the apprenticeship programs we know are so critical to building a strong economy. And last year, I was able to secure $1.5 million in federal funding to help construct the Shakopee Innovation Hub and provide a wide variety of critical job training programs, post-secondary educational opportunities and entrepreneurial programs in the South Metro area.

Our workforce and economy are strongest when we expand opportunities to people who have a variety of backgrounds and educational experiences – and I’m proud that my office is taking this step today.

Here's what else I was up to this week:

Meeting with the Minnesota Association of School Administrators
One of the most important things we can do is ensure that every single Minnesota student has access to a high-quality public education. This week, I met with members of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators to discuss how we can work together to support all students and educators.

Spending time with the Burnsville Fire Department
This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to join the Burnsville Fire Department for a Fire Ops 101 Training – where I experienced the job up close that MN-02 firefighters perform every day. Thank you to every member of the department who took time out of their weekend to show us the ropes!

Hearing from members of Minnesota’s trade unions
This week, NABTU held their yearly legislative conference in DC. It was so great to meet with a few of my favorite building trades leaders from across the district.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

I am the proud “Mimi” to our absolutely perfect grandson Noah! One of my favorite decorations in my office is my “Don’t Mess with Mimi” mug – which was given to me by Minnesota Farm Bureau President Dan Glessing and is proudly displayed on my desk. Got to show it off to a few visitors in the office this week!
