#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | April 28, 2023 National Debt Hello and happy Friday! We’ve wrapped up another week here in Washington - time to fill you in on what we’ve been up to. The national debt was the topic of discussion this week. Our national debt is surpassing $31 trillion and Congress needs to take the necessary steps and look hard at our spending habits. I told GOP leadership we would not support raising the debt ceiling unless we got a plan to balance the budget, and leadership agreed to let me lead the charge, which is a huge win! To listen more on our stance in regards to the debt ceiling and our displeasure with the Administration’s stonewalling on the issue, look here. This week in Oversight we heard absolute hypocrisy coming from the other side. Fully hijacked our hearing, literally saying we wanted to take food out of babies' mouths…remember last year the Administration’s baby formula shortage? Utter nonsense and just spreading complete lies. Watch here. May River High School and Charleston Academic High School came to Capitol Hill this week to learn more about our legislative system and tour our nation’s capital! Thursday we had the opportunity to Chair the Women Veterans Taskforce Roundtable. We had the opportunity to discuss Military Sexual Trauma as well as the medical benefits women veterans need after transitioning out of active duty. May is quickly approaching, and we are preparing to celebrate Military Appreciation Month - a time when we show our appreciation for troops past and present who have given so much to defend our freedoms. We hold events all over the Lowcountry, and next week on May 3rd we will be in Summerville for Coffee With Your Congresswoman at Cuppa Manna! You can RSVP for the event here. Stay subscribed to our newsletter to hear more or follow our Eventbrite page by clicking here. Hurricane Preparedness Week kicks off this Sunday and it is imperative you and your family are ready for any and all natural disasters. Here in the Lowcountry, we are no strangers to these catastrophic storms. South Carolina residents can look here for more information on hurricane safety. Attention all SC-01 High Schoolers you can submit your artwork for the Congressional Art Competition before the May 8, 2023 deadline. Please note only electronic submissions will be accepted. Our office has received a tremendous response from students in the past and we anticipate receiving even more submissions this year. If your student is interested please look here for more information. Another semester has passed and it is time to say goodbye to our Spring interns! Being an intern in a Congressional office is not an easy task, but we get the best of the bunch to represent South Carolina! If you or someone you know is looking to intern in one of our offices, look here to apply. Just as a reminder - we have started a new series on our social media platforms highlighting beautiful sunsets all over the Lowcountry. If you would like to submit your photo, look here. As always, our office is here to lend a hand whenever we can. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns or want to be heard on any issue at any time. We’re here to help. It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you. Have a great weekend! Sincerely, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Visit My Website DISTRICT DOG OF THE WEEK 🐶This week’s #DistrictDog is Layla.
