Convention 2023 was a socialist success!
|
Hundreds of members showed up last Saturday to celebrate our wins, reflect on challenges and successes of the past year, and decide our priorities for the next year. We heard from LA City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez and LAUSD School Board Member Rocío Rivas and were honored to be joined by former Councilmember Mike Bonin.
The results of our democratic debates on priority resolutions for 2023-2024 are as follows -
- "Power Mass Transit Los Angeles" passes: 164 aye to 34 nay
- "DSA-LA for Mass Working Class Co-governance" passes: 181 aye to 34 nay
- "The Socialist Campaign for CalCare" does not pass: 66 aye to 154 nay
- "Power to the Tenants" passes: 162 aye to 41 nay
Additionally, we raised over $900 for Labor Solidarity!
As work begins on our chapter's new priorities, more information will be available soon about how members can be a part of these exciting new campaigns.
In the meantime, join us for May Day and the May Branch Meetings to keep our momentum going!

It's gonna be May (Day) !

This May Day, workers are getting together to say that SOLIDARITY IS POWER!
This year’s theme is “Solidarity is Power: Right to Unionize, Right to Strike, Right to Housing, & Right to Citizenship.” The event will bring people together from all walks of life to stand in solidarity with one another and to raise awareness labor, housing and immigration struggles across our city and the nation. Join us in Downtown LA on May 1st at 4PM at the corner of W Olympic Blvd & S Broadway.
DSA-LA is proud to march with numerous partners, unions and organizations, a full list is available at the RSVP link below.

Across LA and across the country, DSA members are pledging to show up on the picket lines. Next week, 20,000 Writers Guild of America members are ready to go on strike. Hotel workers with UNITE-HERE Local 11 are gearing up for a fight. And in August, 340,000 teamsters at UPS are ready to walk out for better pay.
Workers need to support each other as we fight for a better world -- and we need you to show up in solidarity! Sign the pledge now saying that you'll show up on the picket line and support strikers!

Meet the CA DSA delegates from LA
|
DSA-LA was allocated 28 seats on the California DSA State Council for the coming year. In our recent chapter election, 28 members applied, meaning they were all elected by acclamation. Congratulations and good luck to our comrades representing us at the state level!
Click through below to see the list of candidates, as well as their statements and vision for helping to build California DSA.
Note: We would also like to acknowledge that promotion for these elections was heavily overshadowed by the local Convention. For members that are interested in representing the chapter, stay tuned for info coming very soon about National Convention Delegate Elections! We will be advertising this far and wide to make sure everyone knows all the details!
