Florida isn't the only state taking abortion restrictions to the extreme. Abortion access is under attack in every corner of the country. Just this week:
-
The governor of North Dakota signed into law a near-total abortion ban.
-
The South Carolina legislature considered a near-total abortion ban, but that failed to move forward after a two-day filibuster led by five state senators.
-
And in Nebraska, abortion opponents have tried five times in the past year to pass an extreme ban — including this week, when (thankfully!) legislative champions were able to defeat a ban that would have restricted access beginning at about six weeks.
Whether through legislatures or the courts, opponents of reproductive freedom are trying everything they can think of to make accessing care as difficult as possible.
Politicians aren't putting health care first. They're doubling down on an extreme anti-abortion agenda. One in three women of reproductive age — and even more people who can become pregnant — live in states where abortion is banned. And in states across the country, maternal mortality rates are rising at alarming rates, especially in Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities, which face the greatest barriers to health care due to systemic racism and discrimination.
It'll take all of us to create and mobilize a movement that holds lawmakers accountable and ensures abortion care is accessible for everyone.
That's where you come in:
Donate today to help protect, expand, and restore access to abortion across the United States.
Everyone should be able to make their own decisions about their bodies and their futures. We must continue to build this movement so that politicians cannot interfere with those decisions. We will always defend abortion rights and access everywhere.
