The latest on out work and programs!

This Sunday, Mexico celebrates Dia Del NiĂąo, or "Children's Day." Many of our supported Tijuana shelters house migrant families and children, in some cases like Templo Embajdores de Jesus, they house hundreds. Thanks to your monetary and physical donations to our Shelter Aid program, and your participation in Caravans of Love, we have provided meals, haircuts, glasses, hygiene products, clothes, games, toys and lots of love.

We are so grateful to not only help provide the basic needs for growing children but to help them let loose and just be kids despite the circumstances and challenges their families face.

We invite you to donate to our Shelter Aid program here ([link removed]) , and continue to fill the Tijuana shelters with fun and laughter, and stay tuned for an announcement very soon on our next Caravan of Love!

PROGRAM UPDATES:
Water Drop:

Our Voice Nuestra Voz reached out to us a while back, and while the pandemic halted our meeting for a bit, last week they were able to finally join us on Water Drop upon our reopening all the way from New Orleans. OVNV I is a nation-building organization, anchoring ancestry while building Black and Brown solidarity. They did so by spending time not only with us, but with organizations like Haitian Bridge Alliance. Even though they don’t find themselves living on the U.S /Mexico border they understood that the immigration policies still continue to affect the communities they serve. As OVNV founder Marydee recognized “Louisiana has become the second largest (immigration) detention hub in the US making it the incarceration and detention capital of the world.“

The energy and spirit that all of the participants had was inspiring! We are so touched by how much peace and love they brought to the desert along with the supplies we left behind. At the beginning of the trek, the participants started singing and really brought out their spiritual energy, and at the end, they left a moment of silence for those who had lost their lives and did a cleanse for the group. We are so grateful for their presence, and healing brought to spaces like the desert which are so thoroughly filled with trauma. THANK YOU OVNV!

We also want to shout out Albana and Lia, our safety monitors! With this group, we were able to replenish sites through which we found consumed items and leave over a dozen gallons and packages including pop-top cans, cooling blankets, long sleeve t-shirts, electrolyte packets, and more.

If your school/group/organization would like to join us or find out what other educational opportunities are available please email us at [email protected] today!

Uphold the Reproductive Rights and Health of Migrants
"Since February 2020, we've called for CBP to stop detaining pregnant, postpartum, and/or nursing people & their infants. This advocacy started after we learned of a woman who was forced to endure giving birth while at a Border Patrol hielera instead of being taken to a hospital. 3+ years and multiple letters–including one with 130+ signers–later, little has been done. We have recently learned of multiple new instances of horrific treatment of pregnant migrants in CBP custody.

It is past the time for CBP to take action. Today, Jewish Family Service of San Diego, the ACLU together with 177 advocacy organizations & medical professionals, are once again demanding CBP respect the reproductive health of pregnant people and their loved ones. We must center humanity and access to medical care, not detention."

Join us in advocating for the reproductive rights & health of vulnerable migrants as they exercise their legal & human rights to seek safety in the U.S Email Acting CBP Commissioner Miller ([link removed])
and help spread the word by sharing our post.
News Spotlight:

Border agents destroy water and food left for people crossing border illegally
Border Patrol agents are not supposed to destroy humanitarian aid left along the border. But that’s exactly what happened in the Otay Mountains east of San Diego last month.

After a routine water drop March 18, volunteers with the Borderlands Relief Collective found dozens of destroyed water bottles and cans of food dumped on the ground and accused Border Patrol agents.

The group usually leaves supplies like water, Gatorade, cans of beans, clothes, hand warmers and “anything that might make a difference to a migrant crossing through these dangerous areas,” said David Greenblatt, a volunteer.

Emmet Norris, another volunteer, noticed Border Patrol agents following the group during the March 18 drop.

Borderlands Relief Collective made three separate drops that day. When they returned an hour later to one of the locations, they found their humanitarian supplies dumped on the ground.

The water bottles had been emptied, the cans of food opened, and the crates used to carry the supplies were broken."

As a San Diego neurosurgeon, I see the devastating effect of a raised border wall
“As a neurosurgeon working in San Diego, I can attest that we are seeing not only more but also new types of neurological injuries, including traumatic brain and cerebrovascular injuries that will leave people unable to work and care for their families. The horrors we are seeing now are caused by the height of the wall.

Under Executive Order 13767 in 2017, the Trump administration started raising the height of sections of the border wall in San Diego, Arizona and Texas to as high as 30 feet. The wall in San Diego was completed in 2019. Since then, there have been a record number of traumatic spinal injuries sustained in border falls. The Mexican Consulate recently noted that 646 Mexican nationals were hurt or killed crossing the border from 2020 to 2022, saying the main cause of injury ‘was wall-related.’”
