John –

The next few months could have a profound impact on our democracy.

Soon, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue decisions on two cases that we're monitoring closely: Moore v. Harper and Allen v. Milligan.

Let's break down what these cases are all about and why they are so important:

  1. Moore v. Harper is a big deal. Depending on how the Court rules, countless laws could be struck down, including anti-gerrymandering measures, Ranked Choice Voting, and any other reform passed by the voters that affect federal elections.

You can get a refresh on the details of this case by watching this explainer video we put together. Don’t forget to share it with your network to help spread the word.

  2. In Allen v. Milligan, the Supreme Court is considering an Alabama Congressional map that likely violated the Voting Rights Act (VRA). This map dilutes the voting power of Black voters, potentially silencing the voice of hundreds of thousands of Alabamans. This case also gives the Court a chance to further weaken the VRA.

The case could effectively gut the strongest tool we have in preventing racial gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Between these two cases, the next few months are absolutely critical for the future of democracy – but we’re ready for whatever outcome our movement may face.

You can expect to hear from us about these cases quite a bit over the next few months and you'll be the first to know when and how you can take action when the Court issues its decisions.

For now, the most important thing we can do is read up on these cases and make sure our friends and neighbors know what's at stake.
