Hey John, it’s
Tara — Founder and Publisher of Courier Newsroom.
In a moment, I’m going to share how you can help us fight back against our
country’s bad information crisis.
But if you’re short on time, here’s the gist:
Our local newsrooms in eight battleground states are debunking
misinformation with factual journalism and meaningful stories — covering
everything from the GOP’s efforts to ban abortion to holding bad actors
like Fox News and Joe Rogan accountable.
But to keep these important stories free and accessible for anyone who
wants them, we need your help to reach our April fundraising goal.
[ [link removed] ]The issue is this: our fundraising has taken a bit of a nosedive — at
the same time that our work is picking up. That means the next 48 hours
are critical to closing our $17,000 gap so we can power the work of our
newsrooms, expand into new states, and stop the spread of bad information.
Can I count on you to chip in $5 now to help us get there?

I founded Courier Newsroom because the way Americans get their news has
changed.
Local newsrooms keep closing, leaving millions of Americans to rely on
social media feeds and inboxes to learn about important local issues and
news.
The problem is, these online spaces are also where dangerous
disinformation thrives. We’ve seen the toll these kinds of claims can have
— whether it’s dividing our communities, or even stoking political
violence like we saw on January 6th.
At Courier Newsroom, we believe the best antidote to bad information is
good information. For us, that means providing factual, relevant local
journalism to the communities and online spaces where disinformation
spreads.
To accomplish that, we do things a little differently. For example, we do
NOT:
* Hide our stories behind paywalls — and we never will.
* Publish sensational stories — instead, we focus on the issues that
actually matter like what’s going on in your state and local
government.
* Let profit drive our reporting — because of our grassroots supporters,
we’re free to cover stories that actually matter to our readers.
And while major newsgroups like The Washington Post, Buzzfeed, and CNN are
announcing massive layoffs, we’re not.
Because of support from grassroots donors like you, we’re able to retain
our talented reporters and stay true to our values.
Right now, our reporters have their work cut out for them — with President
Biden launching his reelection campaign, the GOP doubling down on their
attacks on abortion rights, and important state and local elections just
around the corner.
To ensure they have the resources they need, we have to reach our $17,000
fundraising goal in the next 48 hours. We’re behind where we need to be —
but I know how dedicated this grassroots team is. So I’m asking one more
time:

back against disinformation?
