Team, Last month, you may remember that we set a goal of securing 400 grassroots donors by the end of the first quarter of 2023 — and with this team’s help, we got there. Thank you!! These quarterly and monthly goals and deadlines might seem random or arbitrary, but we’re here to tell you that they’re not. The fact is, winning an election takes a LOT of resources — and the only way to make sure we’ve got them is to break down our total fundraising needs into smaller, more manageable goals over time. So we’re here with another fundraising goal, and we’re hoping that you can help. This time, we’re not facing an FEC deadline — this one is based on our own internal budget, but it’s just as important, because reaching it will determine what kinds of investments our campaign can make, and when. One thing that’s not talked about nearly enough in political fundraising is the time it actually takes for a candidate and a campaign to secure the necessary resources to run their campaign. More often than not, one of the most effective ways to raise money is to make phone calls — “dialing for dollars” — to folks who are able to write pretty big checks. But that consumes a lot of time — time that could be spent talking with constituents and educating voters about the upcoming election. And look — we are very grateful to those who care so deeply about a candidate and are able and willing to donate a large sum of money! But it’s also incredibly valuable and important to have campaign funding from people who are only able to give $5 here and there — people who deserve just as much time, attention, and representation from their leaders as anyone else.
