You won’t find this crisis in the headlines, Friend, but the situation in Somalia is worsening — quickly.
For years now, over 36 million people across the Horn of Africa — Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, and Djibouti — have been suffering through the most intense drought of their lives. The region is on the brink of famine, with widespread crop failures and thousands dying of hunger.
The media and many humanitarian donors have turned their attention elsewhere, meaning your support is urgently needed and has the power to provide lifesaving care to women and girls facing starvation.
“I have never experienced a drought as bad as this in my life,” 28-year-old Akure told us. “The dry seasons have been getting worse over the past three years, but our animals kept us going with milk and meat. This time, they have all perished and left us with nothing.”
Women and girls like Akure are disproportionately impacted by severe droughts — from spending hours a day securing food and water or suffering from violence to experiencing pregnancy complications due to malnourishment.
But your support can make a difference by funding:
Mobile health clinics, emergency obstetric, and newborn care facilities providing lifesaving care to those who need it most
Motorcycle ambulance systems operating in even the most hard-to-reach locations
The distribution of dignity kits and maternity kits and more
But as millions across the Horn of Africa prepare for what will likely be a SIXTH consecutive failed rainy season, we need your support to keep our services in the region funded.
Thank you for not looking away and leaving women and girls like Akure with nothing. Together, we can deliver a world where every woman and girl has access to lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care, no matter what.
Your gift will deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to women and girls in more than 150 countries around the world. Thank you for being there for every woman and girl.
