????? Workplace safety requirements can seem complex - join the Maine Department of Labor for no-cost upcoming safety trainings!

*Upcoming classes:*


* *Work Zone Safety:* May 4, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. ? 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* Private companies and public agencies that work on public roads must follow the traffic control standards of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This hands-on, half-day workshop covers the MUTCD standards and use of cones, signs, flags and paddles.?


* *Heat Illness Prevention:* May 9, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. ? 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* Every industry faces heat as a hazard whether indoors with radiant heat sources or outdoors during the hot summer months. In this half-day course, you will learn about heat-related illnesses, how to prevent and control them, as well as methods to screen and assess heat exposure severity.


* *10-hour Construction Standards:* May 11 & 12, 2023 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. ? 1 p.m.
* This one-and-a-half-day course offers basic information on a variety of construction industry safety/health standards (29 CFR 1926). Attendees who complete the course will receive an OSHA 10-hour course completion certificate. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on day one and 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on day two.


* *Mine Safety and Health Administration - Refresher:?*May 15, 2023 from 8 a.m. ? 5?p.m.?at Sanford Community Adult Education
* The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requires all surface mining (ex. Stone crushing, gravel pit, etc.) employees to receive an eight-hour annual training. This one-day course will cover generic MSHA training. However, site-specific training will also need to be conducted once you return to your respective job sites.??


* *Heat Illness Prevention:* May 16, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. ? 12:30 p.m. at Sanford Community Adult Education

* *Lead Safety:* May 17, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. ? 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* This half-day course provides information on OSHA's Lead Standards for Construction and General Industry (1926.62 and 1910.1025). The information obtained in this lead safety program help you understand the standards and lower your risk for illness related to lead exposure.


* *Public Sector Compliance:* May 18, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. ? 10:30 a.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* This assistance program is for state, county, municipal, and quasi-municipal employers, managers, and employees. The program is an overview of public-sector employer responsibilities including injury/fatality reporting, written programs, training, equipment/facility inspections, and recordkeeping.


* *Mine Safety and Health Administration- New Miner*: May 19, 2023 from 8 a.m. ? 5 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* This course covers eight hours of classroom training under Part 46 training requirements per the Mine Safety and Health Administration for all new miners. This is only a portion of the new miner training requirements; the balance of the training must be completed by the employer.


* *Automotive Lift /Jack Stand Safety and Compliance:* May 22, 2023 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta
* This half-day course provides training on the proper operation of multiple types of automotive lifts, jacks and jack stands, inspection, compliance reporting, training, and documentation required by various inspecting agencies. The course will provide the information needed for a safer workplace, which helps eliminate citations and can possibly lower a company's workers compensation insurance expense. The course will have classroom and hands-on training.
