Friend —
The EPA recently proposed long-overdue limits on six toxic chemicals known as PFAS. This group of chemicals has been linked to cancer, harms fetal development, reduces the effectiveness of vaccines, and is associated with many other serious health problems.
For decades, these chemicals have been used, largely unregulated, in thousands of applications and products. These substances are now present in the drinking water of hundreds, if not thousands, of community drinking water supplies, often due to avoidable past releases into the environment at contaminated sites.
More than 95% of the U.S. population already has PFAS in their bodies. PFAS exposure is especially prevalent among low-income communities and communities of color, which are already more likely to be exposed to hazardous industrial pollution or waste sites due to structural racism and power imbalances.
Now, the EPA is proposing enforceable Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) limits on six PFAS chemicals. But they are already facing intense opposition from chemical manufacturers and users.
Your support is critical. If the EPA moves quickly to finalize this proposal, we can finally hold polluters accountable for jeopardizing our health and the environment and stop the flow of these dangerous chemicals into our communities.
Will you take action today to urge the EPA to quickly finalize these Safe Drinking Water Act regulations and support the fight for cleaner, healthier communities?
We must be united in our resolve to protect our communities from these harmful chemicals and demand polluters be held accountable for the damage they have done to our health and the environment. But we need your help. Our goal is to send 5,000 messages from LCV supporters like you.
Thank you for taking action to protect our health.
