Tell Congress to look in the mirror and stop funding war.

<[link removed]>ACT NOW! <[link removed]>

Dear John,

According to a recent study by Academia Sinica in Taipei, only 33% of people in Taiwan believe in the US, and 56% believe it is not credible. This is because the US is driving a narrative that China wants to go to war on Taiwan, but Taiwan is part of China. Why would China want to attack itself?

Tell Congress to stop warmongering China with Taiwan! <[link removed]>

We see in the last election in Taiwan, the people don’t want war and don’t want to be part of the drive to war that the US has been engaged in for years. Last August, Taiwan’s leader Tsai Ing-wen opened the door for Rep. Pelosi, whose visit crossed China’s red lines and escalated tension in the Taiwan Strait. In November, Tsai’s party lost the election. The people witnessed how the US provoked a war with Russia in Ukraine, and they don’t want to be on the same path to death and destruction.

On April 5, Speaker McCarthy met with Tsai, again violating the one-China policy and provoking China. We can only stop a war before it starts, and that’s exactly what we want to do. CODEPINK activists joined our partner Pivot to Peace and members of the Chinese American community to protest the meeting in California. In Taiwan, the people also greeted Tsai with a protest upon her return.

Who profits, and who loses? Taiwan is already losing. Last week, Taiwan officials asked US politicians through back channels to tone down the warmongering narrative with China and Taiwan. Fearing a war might break out, business owners, including Warren Buffet, are pulling their investments out of Taiwan, hurting Taiwan’s economy. Meanwhile, 25 US weapon manufacturers are planning to visit Taiwan in May to reap profits off the warmongering narrative and the panic it creates.

Tell Congress: the people of Taiwan want peace! Stop warmongering China! <[link removed]>

As we work for peace in the US, China leads in building peace in the world. At CODEPINK, we have been working for 8 years to end the supply of US weapons that has killed over 377,000 people including women and children in Yemen. We pushed the Yemen War Power Resolutions through Congress 4 times. After two US Presidents failed to act, China brought some concrete diplomacy and a possible lasting peace to Yemen. More recently, China offered to facilitate peace in Palestine, and Xi spoke with Zelensky and promised to send special representatives to Ukraine for peace talks. China is using diplomacy to make peace for the world. How can the US claim China will attack Taiwan, its own territory resided by people of the shared ancestry?

Put your name on the petition! We will deliver it to members of Congress in-person. <[link removed]>

Enough warmongering — the planet and the people need peace! Tell Congress to look in the mirror and stop funding war.

Onward to peace,

Wei, Jodie, and the entire CODEPINK Team
