Republicans passed their extreme debt limit plan through the House yesterday, and only one word describes it: Cruel.

John, the cruel future the GOP is trying to create through debt ceiling brinkmanship has fewer jobs, worse public safety, higher costs, and out-of-control climate change.
It's cruel to slash spending for hungry kids, slash funding for preschool and childcare programs, and threaten food assistance for our seniors and funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
It's cruel to force work requirements on people relying on safety net programs — while cutting IRS enforcement that would catch rich tax cheats.
And it's cruel to everyone — especially young people — to repeal the historic climate and clean energy investments we passed in the Inflation Reduction Act.
