When did “religious freedom” become so controversial?  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Dear John,

Today, there is a movement aimed at controlling your freedom to follow your conscience. What you believe. What you say. What you will and will not do.

To these activists, there is simply no room for you in civil society if you believe:
  • Marriage is between one man and one woman.

  • A person’s sex is unchangeable.

  • Unborn babies deserve legal protection.
Slowly but surely, opponents of religious freedom are working behind the scenes to make living out these beliefs—your beliefs—illegal.

Their master plan calls for rewriting sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) protections into law.

And in many states and cities across the U.S., these SOGI laws are a severe threat to your freedom, John.

Instead of protecting people from discrimination, these laws actually disadvantage women and girls, undercut the First Amendment, and place a severe burden on people of faith in many situations.

Everyone should be free to live and work peacefully in accordance with their core beliefs. But opponents of religious freedom seek to use SOGI laws to stop people like you from doing just that.

They are strategizing to eliminate your conscience protections and effectively gut the First Amendment.

Because religious freedom is not merely the freedom to believe what you want to believe—it’s the freedom to live out those beliefs. And not just within the walls of your home and church, but everywhere.

We must stop them.

For the month of February, we’ll be sharing with you stories of ADF clients who are standing up to efforts to strip away your freedoms—especially when it comes to these SOGI laws.

These stories powerfully illustrate what can happen when courageous people stand firm in their faith. And why we must not waver when the government and opponents of religious freedom try to restrict our right to live and speak our beliefs.

When we unite together, we can defeat their efforts.

Will you help us stand for freedom today?

A generous Christian family who understands the threats to freedom has provided a $500,000 challenge grant. They want to preserve the freedom to live out our beliefs. Will you join them today and further the impact of the grant?
