Hi Friend,
Yesterday, the Republican-led House of Representatives passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling, alongside other party policy priorities. The fact of the matter, though, is that their bill is “dead on arrival” because to pass it would need 60 votes in the Democrat-led Senate and that is not happening.
What this means for everyone paying attention is that between now and the "X" date in June, our country's leaders will either strike a bipartisan deal to raise the debt ceiling or the United States will default on its debts.
As America hurtles toward a fiscal cliff, President Joe Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy should be encouraged by all of us to come to the table and make a deal.
A commonsense, bipartisan supported framework was presented last week by the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, so we launched a petition this week calling for party leaders to get together and get a deal done.

Here's what's at stake if President Biden and Speaker McCarthy don't reach a deal:
- Social Security and Medicare could delay or cancel payments.
- Federal pensions could be delayed or canceled.
- Your retirement account could lose value.
Biden and McCarthy last met about this urgent matter in early February. Both characterized their talks as a promising start, but the meeting didn't produce results. That was months ago - time is running out and we need action now.
